Main Questions

Can I use another type of pasta?

Of course! You can replace the calamarata with paccheri or another dough of your choice. The idea is to maintain the structure of the pie, but the choice of dough can vary according to your taste.

What to do if the sauce is too runny?

If the sauce is too runny, continue cooking over low heat until it reduces and reaches the desired consistency. Avoid adding starch or flour to thicken it, as this can alter the flavor.

Can I use ready-made tomato sauce?

Announcement

Yes, you can use a pre-made sauce, but the flavor of crushed fresh tomatoes is unbeatable. If you choose to use a pre-made sauce, choose a good quality one and adjust the seasoning as needed.

Can I add other cheeses?

Absolutely! Provolone and Gruyère are great options to enhance the recipe. Try combining different cheeses for an even richer flavor.

How do you know if the pie is ready?

Announcement

The pie is ready when the crust is golden brown and crispy. Check to see if the cheese is melted and the crust is cooked through. If you prefer a more golden crust, leave it in the oven for a few more minutes, but keep an eye on it so it doesn't burn.

Can I prepare in advance?

Yes, you can make it in advance and heat it in the oven before serving. Assemble the pie, cover it with plastic wrap, and store it in the refrigerator. When ready to serve, heat it in the preheated oven until it is completely warm.
